Children build social, creative-thinking, and problem-solving skills as they work in small groups to create open-ended constructions using a variety of materials — without relying on tape or glue.
Children investigate materials and discover different ways to connect them.
Children practice collaboration and shared decision-making in small groups.
Children describe what they built and reflect on what worked.
Materials
Clay or play dough
Styrofoam blocks and Styrofoam “popcorn”
Toothpicks, pipe cleaners, twist ties, large paper clips
Yarn or string; small paper tubes
Scraps of colored paper and foil; hole punch
Containers to sort and share materials
