Description:

In small groups, students use a limited set of materials to design and build a shelter that can protect a small doll from an incoming "meteor storm," then test their shelter's durability by having tennis balls thrown at it.

Materials

  • Three tennis balls.

  • A plastic baby doll or a large stuffed animal.

  • For each group, a paper bag containing:

    • Two large garbage bags

    • Ten pipe cleaners

    • Five pieces of paper

    • Twenty-five toothpicks

    • Three feet of string

    • One roll of painter’s tape
