The Great Egg Drop

Description:

In groups of three, students will use a bag of limited materials to engineer a contraption that protects a raw egg, then test their designs by dropping them from a second-floor window to see whose egg survives intact.

Materials

  • For each group, a paper bag containing:

    • 1 sheet of newspaper

    • 5 popsicle sticks

    • 2 pieces of paper

    • 1 balloon

    • 1 plastic spoon and fork

    • 2 paper plates

    • 6 drinking straws

    • 1 empty water bottle (24 oz. or less)

    • Tape and glue

    • 1 small Ziploc bag

    • 1 plastic or Styrofoam cup

    • 10 toothpicks

  • One unbroken raw egg in its shell for each group.
